Natalija Sklepić

Natalija Sklepić is the first Romani woman to graduate from the Faculty of Education in Čakovec. Her story is an inspiring example of perseverance, dedication, and educational progress that transcends social limitations.

She grew up in one of the poorest Romani settlements in Međimurje, the settlement of Parag. From an early age, she loved going to school and learning. With strong support from her teachers, she continued her education at the Secondary School of Economics in Čakovec, where she was the first enrolled Romani female student. During high school, she lived in a student dormitory, which provided her with better conditions for studying and progressing.

Natalija fulfilled her greatest wish by enrolling at the Faculty of Education in Čakovec. Today, she shares her knowledge and experience as a teacher at the Orehovica Primary School, where she teaches an elective course called Language and Culture of the Roma. In addition, she has been recognized as a REYN Ambassador and is actively involved in the education and upbringing of Romani children.

Natalija’s story is an inspiration to many. Through her commitment and education, she proves how important it is to invest in knowledge and to overcome both social and economic barriers.
